Soldier Story: Brett L. Lundstrom
Each day, we will randomly highlight one service member’s life, and include links and stories. We choose to never forget, and this is our way, before the run, to remember our fallen service members.
Cpl. Brett Lee Lundstrom, 22, died while serving with the United States Marine Corps on Saturday, January 7, 2006, in Fallujah, Iraq. Brett was born on June 12, 1983, in Vermillion, SD to Ed and Doyla (Underbaggage) Lundstrom. He joined the Marine Corps in January 2003 and served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Brett was charismatic, with a kind and generous soul; always humorous with a smile that lit up any room or place he entered. Brett, an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, whole-heartedly served his country. Brett loved spending time with his family, friends and relatives and enjoyed his time in the Marines. He also loved his Washington Capitals and a variety of other sporting events. Brett attended many schools, as his father was a career Marine Officer.
At Brett’s wake service his great-uncle, Birgil Kills Straight, gave Brett his Indian name. “Before he enters the spirit world, it’s important for him to have an Indian name, because that’s how the ancestors will know him.”
“His name is Wanbli Isnala,” and then translated, “Lone Eagle.”
We will run for Brett on July 21, 2008 outside Longton, Kansas.

Faces of the Fallen
In Remembrance

I give you credit for acknowledging those fallen in Iraq. But, I can’t find any recognition of our fallen in Afghanistan War. Am I mistaken, or are they forgotten?
This is a constant media / public awareness issue that causes me upset. We are currently loosing brave men and women in TWO wars, not just the one. Correct me if I am wrong, just note it to my e-mail.
Thank you
