First Glance: August 24
From a quick glance, there were more than 250 runs organized across the globe, all running with one purpose in mind: to Run for the Fallen. While we are still tallying the total miles of remembrance runs, the combined mileage of two noteworthy events at Fort Leonard Wood in MO and Camp Victory in Baghdad was over 10,000 miles. Over the next several weeks, we will update the final event page, complete with state by state event listings, weblinks, and mileage totals.

I wanted to report in our numbers for our 5K Run for Mississippi’s Fallen Soldiers that we held on the final race day August 24th in Clinton, MS!! We had 93 participants in the rain…on a muddy, rain filled cross country track! It was an emotional event and I believe many had fun running in the mud. We were able to donate $1470 to Wounded Warrior Project. We plan to make this an annual event and it was welcomed by all. I had several people contact me after the race wishing they would have known about it. I planned it in 6 weeks….it was on the news a week before to get more participation and the news came out and aired us on the 10pm news that night and the 6am news the next morning. It was such a great cause!! I cannot thank our supporters enough.
In 29-Palms, CA a couple has started placing geocaches at some of the milemarkers. I have emailed and asked them to add the photo of the individual for that milemarker. Not sure if this has been done elsewhere but it would be great if every mile had a sponsor geocache/caretaker. It is probably also possible to have http://www.geocaching.com/ designate a special geocache for this purpose. Semper Fi.
