I was very fortunate to be able to run in memory of Adam Crumpler of Charleston, West Virginia who died in Iraq in 2005 at the age of 19. I was recently at a ceremony in the State Capitol of West Virginia in the Governor's reception room for the Home of the Brave Quilts being distributed to Gold Star families. I had been introduced to Emma Johnson who was to receive one of the quilts. As the names were read out and the familys went to receive their quilts the name of Adam Crumpler was read. I did not make the connection until later when the ceremony had ended and I had stepped out into the Capitol Rotunda and realized how I knew that name. I did not know personally any of the fallen and had picked Adam's name from the Run for the Fallen web site back in August of 2008. I reentered the Governor's office and approached Mrs. Johnson. She asked why I had a sheepish smile and I asked her if she had heard of the Run for the Fallen. When she said yes, I told her that I had run in Adam's memory. She burst into tears and hugged me and we both comforted each other. I am in Charleston today and am on my way to meet her and see the scrapbook that she is creating in Adam's memory. She wants to include the photo of me running with the Run for the Fallen t-shirt in her memory book of Adam's life. I am so honored to be able to contribute in some way for one of our patriotic fallen servicemen. Adam was so young and just starting life, but he wanted to help preserve the American way of life which was challenged by 9/11. I want to send out blessings of Peace and Love to the families of all who have lost loved ones this Christmas Season. Thank you to all who remember their sons and daughters and have been brought together by this wonderful group, The Run for the Fallen.

Barbara,
Run for the Fallen's mission this past summer, was to place flags and sign cards for those service
members killed in OIF, they ended with #4,086.
All remaining casualties from OIF along with all fallen service members from OEF were honored and remembered on Aug. 24th. Anyone killed in or died from casulties in Afghanistan, were honored on that last day in ANC. If Kris or someone else has not been in touch with you already, I am positive they will be--I can assure you that no one was missed intentionally. I was a volunteer in Virginia & was asked the same question by a friend of James Walton, also killed in Afghanistan, now his card has been placed in flickr & I am sure they will put one for your husband & all the crew if you help with the names. If you would like to email me, I will see what I can do to help.

This was a great idea. I found out about it after the event. I looked for my husband, Lt. Col. John Stein and his crew who died on March 23, 2003 in Afghanistan. No information could be matched. Were they forgotten? Please respond.
