Dan Parker ran with us in Virginia in August of 2008. I clearly recall the day running through Williamsburg and alongside the Colonial National Historic Parkway with Dan and co. It was great to run with him and to learn about his story.

Last year, Dan biked up from Arlington National Cemetery to Ground Zero. His goal was to raise support for the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund, which provides academic scholarships. This year, Dan will be biking again along the same route. I wanted to share with you Dan’s email I received from him this morning. Thanks for tuning in.

~Jon Bellona, Director

Email from Dan Parker:
“In a few weeks, I will once again be biking from the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery to Ground Zero in NYC with a group of Marine buddies and some civilian friends. This ride (which is becoming an annual event) supports the Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation, which has provided over $40 million in scholarship funds since its inception in 1995. Most of the Marines who are riding with us have friends who have been KIA and whose children are receiving education support from MC-LEF.

I’m writing to request your support – any amount you are able to contribute will be helpful and please note that 100% of every donation goes directly to the cause (zero overhead costs, 100% run by volunteers like me). Very few charities can boast of this. Last year with your help we raised over $50k and this year our goal is $100k.

As a personal note (illustrating where the money goes) – one of the primary beneficiaries of this year’s donations will be the daughter of Capt Josh Meadows. He was KIA in Afghanistan in September 2009 while serving with Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), a few weeks before she was born. To read more about MC-LEF, follow this link to the home page: http://www.mc-lef.org/.

If you are interested in donating here is the link: https://www.givedirect.org/give/givefrm.asp?Action=GC&CID=1586. Please identify the “2010 bike ride and Dan Parker” in the comments box of the donation page so that we can keep track of what we each raise in support of the ride. Also, if you choose to donate, please check with your company’s charitable donation matching program and have your employer match your donation. Finally, please pass this note along to anyone you know who may be interested in donating.

Thank you for supporting this cause.”

Semper Fi,
Dan Parker
