Twentynine Palms, CA – Cruise for the Fallen

November 17th, 2010 Comments off

Sent from Donald Tolbert:
MBOCC Cruise for the Fallen honored Operation Iraqi Freedom fallen service members on 5 Nov 2010. Members met early at Denny’s to prepare biographies and flags while Alice Eaton said a pray for the fallen and those now serving. MBOCC formed two teams and drove east of the Twentynine Palms airport on SR62 and stopped at mile marker 55 at the intersection of Iron Age Rd. One team placed a flag and service member biography at even mile markers and the other team at odd mile markers as both teams drove to Parker, AZ. Over 90 service members were honored.

The intersection of SR62 and SR177 was marked with five flags and biographies. US Air Force service members Maj Plumhoff, MSgt Kerwood, TSG Walters, SSG Walkup, and US Army SGM Albert died 23 Nov 2003 in a fiery helicopter crash. All five service members are buried at Arlington National Cemetery in one common grave by request of they’re families. It was MBOCC intent that these five heroes be honored together at this intersection. Eight service members survived the crash.

MBOCC acknowledges the support of our local Home Depot for providing rebar to mount the flags and to Barr Lumber for providing a discount on the flags.

Thank you to Donald and to MBOCC for their wonderful event.
