July 4th Parade: Bayfield, CO

On Friday, we had the wonderful opportunity to ride on Wayne and Patti Buck’s float in the Bayfield, CO July 4th parade. The parade was complete with tractor pulls, cheerleaders, and a WWII plane fly-by for the kickoff! We ran from Arboles to Wolf Creek that Friday, running for over 60 service members, including Byron Norwood, JP Blecksmith, and Kyle W. Burns.

It was one of the most memorable July 4th’s I have ever experienced. Thank you to Wayne and Patti Buck for their hospitality and graciousness.

I am a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. It is my hope to get some members of our Missouri Chapters to ride out and see, escort and talk with you. I am keeping close tabs on you, but we just recently learned of the run, so we are behind in planning. I wish I’d known about your run when you were in CO. Our son, Cpl Kyle Powell was killed in Iraq 4Nov06. A wonderful Blue Star mom made me aware of what you’re doing. I think it’s wonderful. Beginning June 14, 2008, a small team of runners will run across America to raise awareness about the lives of those soldiers who fought, to activate their memories and keep their spirits alive, to support organizations that help wounded veterans and the families of those killed (Wounded Warrior Project, Yellow Ribbon Fund, Gold Star Family Support Center, and the 1st Lt. Michael J. Cleary Memorial Fund), and to aid the healing process for those Americans whose lives have been affected by the war.

We encourage all Americans to run one mile for a service member on our last day Sunday, August 24, when we will reach the gates of Arlington National Cemetery. It is on this day that we run in honor and remembrance of all fallen service members killed in both Iraq and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom).

We refuse any political affiliation or agenda, but simply honor those who have fought, and those who have fallen under the American flag.
